WAREHOUSE OPENS JANUARY 7

The first step towards the opening of the 2008 Baseball Season will be made January 7th at 4:30 pm when winter workouts begin at the "Warehouse". All returning Mavericks and those who aspire to become Mavericks are encouraged to come out as much as possible. The warehouse will be open monday thru friday from 4:30 to 6:30. Maverick Coaches will be on hand to help hone skills in hitting catching, throwing and pitching.

The Mavericks warehouse is a completely informal workout with no day-to-day requirements. The purpose is purely for the athlete's advantage to practice their baseball skills during the winter months in order to be ready for the April tryouts. This is also a time when coaches evaluate the available talent in order to better assess the Maverick teams in the upcoming year. However, do not feel any unneeded pressure as the coaches are willing to assist every player who is willing to work hard to improve their game, and committed to becoming a Mavericks player in the future.

The 2008 warehouse is located at 6900 Kestrel Dr Unit 1, off Expressway between Airway Blvd and Butler Creek Road.

Nine Mav's on BBNW Top Players List

The 2008 Baseball Northwest Top Players List has come out and nine current Missoula Mavericks are named as prospects in their respective classes. The lists are an attempt to project an athletes ability to succeed at the next level as seen by Baseball Northwest Coaches and Scouts with help from College and local coaches from time to time. BBNW has broken the lists down by year of graduation, one list for Oregon, one list for Washington, and one list for Montana, Idaho and Wyoming combined. Representing the Missoula Mav's class of 2008 are RHP Cody Burgmeier, C IF OF Mac Cuffe, IF Taylor King and RHP Max Smith. C Sean Dwyer is the lone Maverick listed from the class of 2009. Class of 2010 includes Kendal Maier, Robby King and Andrew Schmautz. The class of 2011 is just showing up un the radar screen and is inhabited by Brody Miller.

The Baseball Northwest Staff acknowledges the difficulty of evaluating young players and admits that there may be omissions of players and makes adjustments to the lists thru out the year. They also state that the lists are their opinion alone and may not match the opinion of other professional or college scouts.

Mav's Bid Farewell to Five, Look Ahead to 2008

With the 2007 AA Season put to rest, the Missoula Mavericks will say goodbye to five players who move on to the next level, and start looking forward to the 2008 campaign that shows much promise with many returning starters and a talented bunch of younger players ready to step in and fill the void.

After completing their last year of eligibility for the Mavs, Chris Bartenhagen, Dan Belet, Conor Dwyer, Brian Fowler and Travis Johnson are spending this fall going to school and honing their skills and getting ready to take the field in new uniforms this spring. Five players completing their last year of eligibility, all five moving on to play college baseball is a testimony to the quality of baseball played at Cregg-Lindborg field and also to the fact that Maverick Baseball is alive and well! Good Luck Gentlemen, and Well Done!

Bartenhagen who hit .324 last year, caught and played outfield for the Mavs. Chris is in his second year at New Mexico Military Institute where he hit .312 as a freshman and was a big part of their offense.

Belet the Mavs center fielder is continuing his education at Whitworth College in Spokane, Dan had a great year with the Mavs, hit .404 in 2007 and made many great plays in the outfield.

Dwyer, a pitcher and first baseman for the AA Mavs for the past four years is headed to Salt Lake Community College where he will primarily pitch in 2008. Conor hit .447 this year for the Mavs and had a era of 2.32 on the mound while pitching 93 innings.

Fowler is headed back to Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario Oregon where he will complete his second year there. Brian, who had 5 wins for the Mavs this year pitched 73 innings and had an era of 4.05

Johnson, competed for the Mavs this year at short stop and made many outstanding plays, Travis, who hit .295 this year is starting his new career at Shoreline Community College in Shoreline Washington.

We wish these five Mavericks the best of luck in their new locations and hope to see them at the Ballpark next summer!

The good news for the Mavericks is that they return players that have started games at the AA level in every position and have allot of experience. With nine players that had significant game experience coming back, and a strong group of players at the A level competing for positions there is good reason to believe that the 2008 AA Mavs will have another great year.

Mavericks Hire Two New Coaches

The Missoula Mavericks have hired two new coaches to fill the vacancies left by the retirement of Mike Nurse and Kyle Slater. It has been announced that Brian Moser will join Coach Hathaway and Coach Kahler coaching the "AA" Mavs and Dave Paisley will join Coach Feeley on the "A" Mavericks.

Moser, a former Maverick who played for Coach Hathaway 1999 and 2000 and had a career batting average of .374,which is the eighth best career average for the Mavs since 1993. Brian graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane were he finished his baseball career. Last year Brian taught Math and was the Varsity Baseball Coach at Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas. Brian is currently teaching Math at Sentinel High School and also coaching the Freshman Boys Basketball team. He is anxious to get back to the Mavericks Program.

Dave Paisley comes to us from Ohio with an outstanding Baseball background. He was a four year starter and All State player in High School, he played on a Ohio State American Legion Championship Team in 1985 and led the State in batting average that year. Dave was a four year letterman and team captain for Muskingum College from 1985-1989. He was drafted in the major league draft in 1989 and played 3 years of Class A baseball were he had a career batting average of .336 and a career era of 3.47. When his career was over he had compiled a Class A record 648 strikeouts and was named the Class A Pitcher of the Year. Dave also pitched a no hitter in 1992. In November of 2006 Dave was inducted into the Ohio Baseball Hall of fame where he joined his Grandfather and his Father who were also in the Hall. Dave has five years of Head Coaching experience and was named State of Ohio Coach of the year in 1995. Dave who has Teachers Certificates in three states is currently coaching the Sentinel Girls JV Basketball Team and says that he is very happy to get back into coaching baseball and looking forward coaching the "A" Mavericks this summer.

These promise to be great additions for the Maverick Program and we look forward to seeing them soon in the warehouse and this summer at the ballpark.

Mavs Lose Two Coaches

Coach Nurse Retires, Coach Slater To Play In Europe

The 2007 Missoula Mavericks will be without two of their coaches that have been a fixture around the ballpark for the past few years. Coach Nurse who has been the "A Mavs" Manager for the past six years has decided that it is time that he turn his attention to family matters.Coach NurseWith grandchildren now getting to the age that they are playing sports who can blame him? Mike Nurse has been coaching in Missoula and the Bitterroot for the past thirty years and is a well known and respected man in coaching circles and also amongst the many players and parents he has coached along the way.We would like to thank Mike for his relentless dedication to the Maverick Program and wish him many years of happiness chasing those youngsters around. Thank You Coach Nurse, we hope to see you at the Ballpark this summer. Also leaving the Mav Program in 2007 is Coach Kyle Slater. Kyle has been the "AA" Bench Coach for the past two years. Kyle, a former Maverick himself, is currently a senior at MSU-Billings where he is the starting catcher for the Yellowjackets. When Kyle wraps up his collegiate career this spring he will prepare to play on the USAA International Team in Europe. This team is a hand picked team of not only talented baseball players, also players of great character selected to represent the USA in International competition. Altho Kyle loved coaching the Mavs the opportunity to continue his career at a higher level is to good to pass up and we wish Kyle all the best and hope that he comes back with lots of good stories.Kyle Slater

In the mean time it is rumored that the Mavs have good replacements lined up for these two, which leaves one position left to fill for the "A" Mavs. Also on our list of needs is a new location for the winter workouts. If you know of a suitable location please contact any board member as the time draws near for winter workouts which usually start in early January.

2006 Mavs Finish Second At State

The 2006 Missoula Mavericks finished 2nd at the State Tournament held in Great Falls in August. After losing in the second game of the tourney to the eventual State Champion Billings Scarlet's, the Mavs went on to win three games in a row, eliminating the Great Falls Electrics, the Billings Royals and the Great Falls Stallions to reach a spot in the Championship Game. The Billings Scarlet's proved to be a little to much that night and the Mavs fell 6-2. Congratulations to the Mavs of 2006 for another gutsy performance at the State Tourney and best of luck to the 2007 Mavericks as they attempt to bring the Championship Trophy home again. The Mavs should have a solid team in 2007 with many returning starters. We hope to see you all at the ballpark when the season opens.
