The Missoula Mavericks American Legion baseball program has a long tradition of excellence in western Montana, turning out young men who go on to play college and professional ball. Each year, tryouts take place over several days in late March and the coaches name AA, A and B teams. After just a few weeks of practice, the regular season begins with nearly 200 home and away games and several tournaments in and out of Missoula.
Home games take place at Lindborg-Cregg field in the Dale Dahlgren complex. Major field and stadium renovations took place in 2015-16 in preparation for the State AA American Legion Tournament. The Hellgate Legion Post has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in our outstanding baseball park.
Our coaching staff is top notch. AA Manager Brent Hathaway was named the 2014 Coach of the Year and is one of the most successful American Legion coaches in the Northwest. The Mavericks have won the state tournament seven times in the last 25 years. Many of our players have gone on to play college ball and eight former Mavs were drafted by Major League Baseball teams.
Our players travel around the Northwest representing Missoula, the state of Montana and the American Legion organization. They are steeped in the Mavs tradition of working hard, sacrificing, and putting the team first. We hope you will come out and see our teams play this year and get involved with one of the greatest baseball organizations in the Northwest. Read more about the Mavs' History, here.
